Week 1 Discussion Question 4: How do the course materials and concepts covered this week relate to the MPA Program's Core Values? Did the materials and concepts covered this week help you to attain the Course Objectives and the related Core Competencies set forth in the Syllabus for this week? Please send a paragraph or two, relating specific or general content in support of your response. This is not only a chance to evaluate your learning, but also an opportunity to provide feedback on how the course can be improved. Feel free to discuss your responses and I am looking forward to the discussion. The course materials and concepts covered this week assisted in gaining an understanding of the ultimate policies that guide the workforce in the United States. The UIU MPA program values consist of three Ds, diversity, democracy, and due process. This week’s reading and discussions did assist me in attaining the course objectives and the related core competencies set forth in the Syllabus for this week. The MPA program teaches students how to strive to make public programs open and responsive to all stakeholders by promoting meaningful participation in the political process in promoting the public interest. The information this week on labor relations discussed the history and development of unionization and collective bargaining in the government and private sectors. The objective of this week’s information was to us on the struggle, growth and development of unionization in the United States government. How the public employee unions and collective bargaining spread rapidly across jurisdictions at different levels for decades. Also, unions in the past compared to unions today, and how unions today have changed their membership strategy to increase membership.
