EDUC 696 C OURSE P ROJECT : P ROPOSAL T EMPLATE Directions: Complete the table below by responding in the column on the right. Prompt Your Response Name: Miranda Hurley Title of the Degree I am Seeking: (eg. MED: Teaching and Learning: Student Services or MED: Program Specialist: Math Specialist or MAT: Special Education) M.Ed. – Educational Leadership Current Position: (eg. elementary teacher, principal, etc.) Clinical Coordinator – City and State Where I Live: Directions: Use the “Response” section to address the prompts below. (Be thorough in your responses. A nicely written paragraph with at least 3 to 7 sentences per prompt is expected. Be sure to use complete, descriptive sentences that fully explain what you are trying to convey. The more description you provide, the easier it will be for your instructor to understand what your project is going to be and why it is important.) 1. Project Description: What is the actual project or product that you will be creating / producing? Now, describe this project in detail. Response: The project will be a new employee handbook; it will include information to assist new clinical instructors throughout various tasks that are completed in the school. Becoming a clinical instructor is a unique endeavor and can be very overwhelming for new employees. There are a variety of different aspects of a Radiologic Technology School that a clinical instructor must navigate through. Such aspects include administrative work, didactic (classroom), and clinical setting. This handbook will provide any new clinical instructor at our school with the appropriate tools to accomplish necessary tasks that they may come across on a daily or periodic basis. 2. Rationale: State why you chose this project topic. How does this project fit into the broad area of education? How does it relate and/or benefit to your current work position or the job you are seeking? Response: I have worked for two different radiologic technology schools. Both schools had student handbooks but neither have handbooks geared towards the educators. Handbooks are an excellent resource and can include a magnitude of different topics. In October, I took a job at a new school, and it was very stressful trying to process all the different aspects of the school. I was spending more time going to my colleagues’ offices to ask questions than I was completing work. Also, one of my colleagues only works part time and I found myself having to wait multiple days to ask questions and receive clarification on specific topics. If I had a handbook, Page 1 of 2
EDUC 696 like the one I am creating, it would have relieved a lot of stress and made my transition to the school much smoother. 3. Statement of Purpose: State what you plan to accomplish with your project. Response: I plan to create a Word document that can be saved in our schools shared Google Drive and also be printed if requested. It will include a table of contents with page numbers and be separated by major topics such as “Administrative”, “Didactic”, and “Clinical”. This will allow employees to quickly locate what they are searching for. I hope to build upon this handbook as the years progress and as a learn and develop new processes within the school. It will include how and where to enter grades, complete competency packets, prepare for JRCERT accreditation, and more. 4. Research-Based: State what sorts of journal and/or article information you will use to complete this project (i.e., what will you look for? What connection does your project topic have to current issues? What current issues need to be addressed with your topic? What issues do you perceive you will research?). Response: I will review articles that address having crucial conversations with adult students, effective teaching strategies, and articles specific to the field of radiologic technology. I anticipate using articles from peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and Medical Teacher. I plan to reach out to fellow Radiologic Technologist educators and seek out other professional organizations for additional ideas and techniques. 5. Projected Application: Explain how you plan to use your project once it is completed? Be specific on the audience(s) who will use it… Response: This Employee Handbook will be used within my own Radiologic Technology school. It will aid any new clinical instructors/educators at navigating the ins and outs of our school. It will not only be a resource for new employees, but current employees as well. Current employees can reference this handbook when completing processes, such as JRCERT accreditation, or when questions arise and others are educators are unavailable to ask. While this handbook is specific to the radiologic technology school I work at, other schools can modify it to fit their needs as well. 6. Description of the projected outcomes: State what you think will happen as a result of completing this project. Keep it specific so that you can document whether or not it occurs. Response: The projected outcome for this project is to provide a reference for new and current clinical instructors at the Ascension St. Joseph’s School of Radiologic Technology. It will provide employees with the tools they need to complete everyday tasks as well as more substantial tasks such as JRCERT accreditation. This handbook will be located on our shared Google Drive that all employees have access to. Additionally, I will add footers with “revised date” that will be updated when changes or additions are made. Page 2 of 2
