EDUC 658 C AREER O UTLOOK A SSIGNMENT I NSTRUCTIONS O VERVIEW As the higher education field becomes more complex, Student Affairs professionals must understand job requirements, current events, and career outlooks. To better understand current expectations and Student Affairs needs, you will research current job postings and evaluate their professional knowledge and understanding. I NSTRUCTIONS For this two-part assignment, you will first review current and relevant job postings to gauge what the field demands. You will synthesize and apply your professional understanding for the second part of the assignment. 1. Assume you have recently completed your graduate degree in Student Affairs. Use various higher education job search tools (e.g., Chronicle.com, InsideHigherEd.com, HigherEdJobs.com, Google.com, etc.) to find and review jobs currently open in the field of Student Affairs for which you might apply. You must select at least seven open job listings; all must be relevant to the field of Student Affairs. 2. Using the provided Career Outlook Template , complete Part 1 by entering the job listings information as prompted, ensuring you report your findings thoroughly and accurately. 3. After completing Part 1 of the Career Outlook Template , complete Part 2 by providing a 300–400-word application summary of your findings in current APA format. The summary should discuss your observations in comparing and contrasting the various Student Affairs job descriptions, including the academic and professional requirements needed for these positions. Discuss what you learned, which job you would apply for and why, as well as a strong conclusion with a succinct recommendation for what a Student Affairs professional should do to stay current in the field. Analyze what must be done to prepare oneself for the Student Affairs position you selected. You must, at minimum, answer in paragraph form the question prompts provided below, but you should add additional content and information based upon what was learned. a. What is one of your biggest takeaways from reviewing the job postings? b. Did anything surprise you about the postings or requirements, and why? c. What were some of the more common requirements for the positions you researched? d. Did the list of requirements align with current trends and issues in the field? Provide examples and explanations. e. What requirement or experience would you add to similar postings and why? f. Of the positions you reviewed, for which posting would you apply? Why? g.
