EDUC 200 V IDEO L ESSON E VALUATION T EMPLATE Use the template below to complete this assignment. All sections below must be addressed with thorough responses; phrases and incomplete sentences are not acceptable. Key words such as “since,” “because,” “through,” “using,” etc., must be used throughout the document to explain the ways in which various competencies were met. Each response must include at least 30 words written in paragraph form. Topic Response Preparation Do you feel that the teacher in the presentation was adequately prepared? Why or why not? I chose the video morning circle at preschool. The teacher was ready, prepared, and engaged with all the children. She was. organized because she had the children's attention for each activity she did, and they were following along and seemed engaged. Set/Closure Describe the teacher’s “set” (the way he/she opened the lesson). How did he/she begin the lesson to gain student interest? Was it effective? Why or why not? How did the teacher close the lesson and summarize/solidify the important concept(s) for the students? At the start of the video, the teacher engages the children in a counting number activity. Some children spoke louder than others when counting, but the more audible children got louder as they kept counting. After the counting, the teacher told the kids to give a high five to the child beside them. These methods were very effective because they got all the children to engage with each other. The teacher had all the children do a pose that they do in yoga. Instructional Strategies/Diversity/ Differentiation How did the teacher’s chosen strategies affect the learning and involvement of students? How did he/she differentiate instruction to meet needs of diverse learners? How did his/her instruction demonstrate sensitivity to his/her culturally diverse students? What recommendations would you give him/her to help address the needs of diverse learners? The teacher had great learning and listening techniques that. encouraged learning and self-love with each student. There was one child who seemed to have some disability, and she treated him like she would any of the other kids. The teacher would give the disabled child options to stand, sit, and follow along. She treated each child equally while offering help when or if needed. She handles it well and does not need a diverse team. Page 1 of 3
EDUC 200 Topic Response Teacher/Student Involvement and Interaction Was the teacher able to involve all students in the learning process? How? Why or why not? How was his/her rapport among students? Was he/she able to interact? Why or why not? Every lesson the teacher did required all the children to participate, just like a group setting. The disabled child needed assistance, so she helped him with the activities they were working on. All students seem to like her and the way she interacts with them. The teacher would sing along, and at the end, she would ask questions. Student Achievement How can the teacher prove that students met the objective of the lesson? The teacher can prove that each student met the objective with the information that the students learned. She can ask them questions about what they learned, and it will tell her if they are meeting the objective. She repeated what she said, and the children answered the questions correctly after each lesson. Classroom Management What strategies did the teacher use to make sure students stayed on task and achieved the objective? Was he/she able to involve all students in the learning process? How? Why or why not? One strategy I saw her use was offering water by squirting water if they answered the question correctly. If the students followed instructions, they were given water by spraying it. She kept the children focused by telling them they must raise their hands before they speak out of turn. All the students got involved because they knew. If they participated, they would get the skirt of water like the other students. Voice Was the volume of the teacher’s voice appropriate during the lesson? If not, what change is needed? What filler words did he/she use? How frequently did he/she use filler words? Her voice was very calming and soothing for the student's age. She spoke in vocabulary for the students so they could understand and follow. I think she used only a few words. They would be filler words. She encouraged the students by letting them know they were doing well. Page 2 of 3
EDUC 200 Topic Response Professionalism Did the teacher demonstrate professionalism in his/her dress? In disposition? In interactions? She showed professionalism in how she dressed for the children's age group. She was wearing something casual but still look- appropriate clothing. She was fair but firm in her disposition. Areas of Strength List and describe 3 or more areas of strength. The teacher was good, showing the students teamwork and an excellent system for choosing who would be helping. The teacher was. fun and kept the children interested. She used to sing, for example, to learn the ABC, which the children seemed to enjoy. Having the strengths helps the children. Improvements for Effectiveness Describe what you would have done differently to improve the effectiveness of this lesson presentation. I would have given the option of doing a written assignment. I would have more activities disabled kids can do to interact with their classmates. The last thing is to have more circle time with students reading or have a place where the teacher reads to the class. I would have the students answer questions on what we have read. Page 3 of 3
