Harley Scott CHE-325 SNHU December 3, 2023 6-2 Journal: Reflecting on New Client Information In discovering this new information about our client Joseph, it did not come as a shock. In looking at his current behavior and how he interacts with those at the VA home he is in, it could be assumed that the behavior would have also been shown to his family and in return would create a rough relationship. When a patient suffers from PTSD it can be difficult to maintain a healthy relationship with friends or family members that are close to him. The symptoms that come with PTSD can cause things like issues with trusting others, communication between individuals, or how they might react to the actions of others. Even after getting this new information I do not believe the treatment recommendations should change for Joseph. It is important for him to focus on himself first because creating that healthy relationship with himself will then he will be able to create those healthy relationships with others. However, after learning there is a negative relationship between the patient and his daughter I might have him work on why it is hard for him to maintain those relationships in a healthy manner. The daughter attending one of his therapy sessions could even be a beneficial aspect in order to learn what her dad is going through and then helping him understand how he can cope with it. This could also encourage them to form a relationship and work through their issues. I cannot relate to the patient because I myself have struggled with my mental health for quite awhile. In high school I found myself not wanting to go to school and stay in bed, not doing the work needed to complete school, and stopped speaking to friends at school. Thankfully I had
family members and teachers at the school I attended who were determined to help me work through my issues and realize I needed help. I then started weekly therapy sessions and began to find ways to cope with my depression. Our mental health is so important and sometimes we forget how when we are not okay mentally everything else around us suffers. If we work on the issues within us we will see the positive effects on the outside within our everyday lives.
