2-2 Activity: Scientific Approaches and Questions Aneva E Jones SNHU SCI-100-H7243 Perspectives in Natural Sci 23EW1 Mary Compton September 10th, 2023
Scientific Approaches and Questions For this week's assignment, I opted to discuss a scientific news article regarding the impact of air pollution on pollinators' ability to locate flowers due to the reduction of scent. The scientific investigation in question involved conducting field research. In this study, scientists at Surrey University used a wind tunnel to observe the effects of ozone on the size and shape of odor plumes. Additionally, laboratory research was conducted to produce the odor plume used for training the bees. The researchers developed a scent resembling flowers, which was then released into the bees' environment to familiarize them with it. This step was crucial in determining their response when exposed to the altered odors resulting from ozone modification. Research Questions With the conclusions that have been discovered from this study so far, what level of impact can this have on the planet and the importance bees have on the environment? With the issue addressed being caused by long-term pollution problems, can there still be a way to protect the bees while working towards fixing the main issue?
