Why do different sports drinks produce different absorbance spectra? (3 points) Write your response below: Different sports drinks use different combinations of food dyes. 3. Why do we need to test distilled water and a copper sulfate solution in addition to the sports drinks? (4 points) Write your response below: We need to test copper sulfate solution because we need to identity if it was present and identify which sports drinks were tainted. 6. Why did we need to measure absorbance spectra of the unopened drink and copper sulfate? How does that support the investigation? Write your response below: We needed to measure the copper sulfate to see if it was present. We needed to measure the unopened drinks to see which drinks were poisoned. It would support the investigation by us ruling them out or saying they were present. 7. What difference did you see between the absorbance spectra of the student drink and the unopened sports drink (besides copper sulfate, if present)? Can you explain this difference? Write your response below: The difference was that each one had a different absorbance rates and showed numerous peaks in their usage. 8. Imagine that a chaperone watered down the sports drinks to make them last longer. How would that impact the absorbance spectrum of the drink?
