Report
Memorandum 09 October 2023 To: Dr. Carissa Eisler, Assistant Professor, UCLA CBE From: Brendan Russ, Chemical Engineer Joe Bruin, Intelligent Bear Joeb Ruin, Causer of Problems Jo E-Bruin, Electronic Consciousness Subject: Proposed Momentum Balance Problem for Teach-To-Learn Project As requested on October 11 th , 2023, I have selected a Momentum Balance problem appropriate for the Teach-To-Learn Project. Figure (1) displays problem 5.7 is from Fundamentals of Momentum, Heat, and Mass Transfer (6e) by Welty, Rorrer, and Foster. Figure (1): Welty Problem 5.7
We believe this problem is appropriate because it requires a momentum balance to calculate the forces, and the conservation of mass equation to relate the inlet and outlet velocities. This problem provides a real-world example in which it would be necessary to apply momentum transport concepts to guide chemical engineering design. I look forward to your feedback. BR
