Standford medicine investigators have learned that people with a particular version of a gene involved in immune response had a lower risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. People who carry any of the protective variants of DR4 and whose brains have begun to accumulate tau aggregates, a vaccine could delay onset or slow progression of Alzheimer’s and possibly Parkinson’s. Working with elders, in long term and rehab care I have many patients that I am in care of with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. This news story caught my attention because of the patients I have and the behaviors, and health issues I witness at work. Discuss the value of the scientific research presented in your selected news story for contemporary society. The value of the scientific research in this new story is brining awareness of a gene that could confer protection against both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The Standford medicine investigators have found that by creating a vaccine could interfere with the aggression of people who carry any of the protective variants of DR4. 1
