DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION During this experiment, students studied the speed of sounds in the air. The main focus of this experiment was to hear the max volume of four different harmonics with different frequencies. This experiment also helped give students a better understanding on how to interpret the speed of sound. Looking at the data for the speed that was calculated using the slope of the graph, it can be seen that for every harmonic n, at a frequency of 600, the speed keeps increasing. An example of this is when n is 1, the speed of sound is 330.96 while the speed of sound when n is 7 was calculated to be 345.12. Also, looking at the data calculated for table 1, it shows that as the frequency increases, the length would decrease. This proves that the length is inversely proportional to the frequency. Furthermore, human error was a factor while conducting the experiment. A human error could be inaccuracy of hearing the right maximum sound for each frequency. This was due to the fact that there were other sounds in the environment that this lab was conducted in, which could have interfered with each other. This could result in inaccurate and not precise results. In conclusion, a major conclusion that was drawn from this lab was that with every harmonic number, at the same frequency, the speed would increase. Also, another conclusion is that as the frequency increases, the length would decrease since the length is inversely proportional to the frequency. In addition to this, there could have been multiple sources of error when conducting this experiment, one of which could be the inaccuracy of collecting the right data points for every frequency due to the interference of other sounds with each other.
