What were your key findings? What was the client asking of you (i.e. what is your objective)? Be specific. REPORTING Prepare your deliverable. Team Members: The client wants to know the amount of electrical power (MW) that's produced when 100 ft^3/s of natural gas is combusted to a fuel generation system that is 30% efficient. The client also wants to know the feed rate of ethanol (g/s) needed to produce the same amount of electrical power as natural gas. They want to know the annual profit for ethanol and natural gas. To calculate the amount of electrical power produced by a natural gas feed rate of 100ft^3/s, we found the enthalpy of formation of methane. and converted 100ft^3/s to 115.81 mol/s. We multiplied them tagather to determine that 27 .9 megawatts, were produced. To calculate the price of the power produced we factored in the 30% efficiency of the process, and determined that the income would be $29,301,324.00 for the electricity. We then calulated the annual cost of natural gas and subtracted it from the income to determine the profit of natural gas. Then we used the amount of energy produced per second from natural gas to calculate the required feed rate of ethanol. Using the feed rete, we calculated the annual cost and retail price of ethanol, which we used to determine profit. Annual Profit for Ethanol: -$29,969,279.30 Annual Profit for Natural Gas: $18,692,352.87 Power produced from Natural Gas Combustion: 27 .9 MW/year Flow Rate of Ethanol needed to make the same amount of power as methane: 1.16 gal/s Methane is more profitable than ethanol

(Think chemical, ecological, social, and/or ethical impacts, as applicable). Include your sources. What comparisons can you make from your results, both key findings and impacts? Based on your comparisons, what recommendation will you make to your client? The combustion of methane and ethanol both have harmful effects on the environment because they produce carbon dioxide. This is both an ethical and ecological issue. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which means that it traps heat in the atmosphere and raises the global temperature of the Earth’s surface and lower atmosphere. This causes the climate of different areas to change which could change habitat structure and therefore, harm animals. Higher temperatures can cause droughts which disrupts the food supply chain, which also harms animals. U.S. Department of Commerce. “Denatured Ethanol Spills.” National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 29 Aug. 2019. National Ocean Service. Accessed: October 22, 2023 . Both fuels have harmful effects on the environment, neither are very much better. Methane is a more profitible option than ethanol because methane’s annual profit was $18,692,352.87 while ethanol’s annual profit was - $29,969,279.30, which is a large difference . Becanse methane is more protitable than ethanol, we recommend that the client uses methane to produce the electrical power.
