SCI 100 Module Four Activity Template: Turning Questions into Hypotheses Instructions Write a hypothesis that is directly related to the research question you finalized in the previous module. Use instructor feedback on that activity and the knowledge you have gained from the course resources to assist you. Replace the bracketed text with your responses. Example The following example may provide some guidance on writing your own hypothesis. Finalized research question: When will solar power have 90% of the population of the world as current customers? Hypothesis: With the innovations scientists are making to create a solar cell that has an efficiency of 50% or more, the world will be able to rely on solar as their main energy source. Write your hypothesis phrased as an if/then statement. If scientists are able to create a solar cell that has an efficiency of 50% or more then the world will be able to rely on solar as their main energy source. Explain how your hypothesis is directly related to your finalized research question (in 1–3 sentences). My hypothesis is directly related to my finalized research question because it is about the efficiency of the solar cells, which is pertinent to solar energy becoming the main power source for the world. Explain how your hypothesis is testable (in 1–3 sentences). My hypothesis is testable because there are measurable components. We have data for how much energy is used by the world each day as well as how much energy solar cells produce. Explain how your hypothesis is falsifiable (in 1–3 sentences). My hypothesis is falsifiable because there can be areas of the world that are not counted in the results of the population that are using solar energy.
