Chandra Davis MIT 230 Profeswsor Ouderkirk April 4, 2023 Chapter 9 discussion A code of ethics is a set of values and principles designed to help experts handle business honestly and authentically. The Code of Ethics defines roles and responsibilities within the field and guides professionals in addressing common ethical issues. Ethics plays a key role in our personal lives and in business. ALL HIM professionals have a moral obligation to safeguard the privacy and security of health information, to release all health-related information correctly, and to ensure the accessibility and integrity of health information. The AHIMA Code of Conduct has six aims. Promotes HIM practice standards, summarizes broad ethical principles that reflect the profession's core values, sets ethical principles to be used to guide decision-making and actions, sets up a framework for professional behavior and responsibilities when professional obligations conflict or ethical uncertainties arise, supplies ethical principles by which the public can hold the HIM professional accountable, and mentors practitioners Both organizations and patients benefit from the AHIMA ethics rule. Ethical principles help patients respect their decisions, proper treatment, and the best possible care based on their beliefs and decisions. This allows the customer to have complete confidence in his healthcare practitioner. Having an ethical framework also enables doctors to discuss end-of-life care with
patients and their families, and quickly inform them about emergency care options. For example, if practitioners experience moral disputes with patients, their families, caregivers, or even other staff, they can propose a solution that prioritizes patient care. Ethical guidelines also help the administration answer a patient's problem, and help train new employees in the field to HIM's missions, values, and ethical principles. Healthcare administrators can directly affect people's lives by ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and that their decisions follow all ethical principles. The administration handles recruiting, training, monitoring, and organizing the timetable of employees. These professionals also improve the workplace for health workers by creating a positive working environment that reduces employee stress. Healthcare administrators help hundreds of individuals by making leadership decisions that uphold a facility's ethical values and give advice that other employees can follow. These principles in health care improve patient outcomes, increase trust in the health system, and improve overall health and well-being for people and communities. Following these advantages is achievable if health professionals have the information, skills, and ability to make ethical decisions in their daily work. Ethics helps guide us in our moral everyday lives. We can decide if our actions are well grounded by defining rules, principles, and values on which our actions can be based.
