Dat 510: Milestone 1: Introduction Background: Roger is a city manager for a medium-sized, but steadily growing, city. The city has limited resources, and like most municipalities, there are more needs than there are resources. He believes that he may be able to get a number of groups to work together to meet some of the needs in the community. He has decided that before asking community organizations, churches, social clubs, hobby enthusiasts and other types of groups, he needs to find out if there are any existing associations between the different types of groups in the area. Working with Roger will assist us in seeing where groups overlap to use their resources to benefit the whole community best. To start using a short survey online that is password protected and each organization is asked to participate. Each have their own password to ensure data integrity and track how many people from each organization respond. Also putting a time limit of one month to ensure data is not comprised. Data Source: The data will track the following attributes: elapsed time, time in community, gender, working, age, family, hobbies, social clubs, political, professional, religious and support group. These surveys will be done online with access to each community group via a unique password to protect the data and determine the amount from each group completes the survey. Data Needs: The data will track the links between the organization members. Using the online survey implemented by Roger will help get the necessary information and put it all in one place. This survey and the knowledge Roger already has will show overlaps in the community groups and where to put resources.
Data Analytics Initiative: Using the data provided by the online survey and Roger’s knowledge will allow reliable data to know about the members of each organization. Using the data it can show where resources are needed and possibly where there are extra or unknown resources to use to benefit the whole community.
