2 Benefits to an organization for being unionized or union-free Union conflict resolution is usually a straightforward process that has already been outlined in a collective bargaining agreement. The collective bargaining agreement is usually followed by a grievance process. If they cannot reach a satisfactory resolution through the grievance process, then it is followed by mediation, and arbitration, and can result in litigation. Through the mediation process, a neutral third-party mediator is brought in to try to help both parties reach a consensual resolution. The mediation process allows both parties that are involved to air out their disputes and issues
