4 Management in the workforce is very important to set goals, accomplish goals, and ensure success and with this comes communication and common goals within leadership. Communication is key in this aspect and helps improve employee morale and builds trust between leaders and employees. Effective commination helps avoid any unnecessary work, errors, and a smoother organization. Mayo Clinic understands the importance of communication in the workplace by stating we must truly listen to others when they speak rather than just hearing hem (Mayo Clinic Connect, 2017). Effective communication. Is put into action. Through the term “PEARLS” PEARLS stands for partnership, empathy, acknowledgment, respect, legitimization, and support. These values support the importance and action of communication and is what makes Mayo Clinic effective and successful. It creates an environment where all levels of staff feel important and heard. It also allows them to feel supported and confident in the workplace. Types of Organizational Structures A common organizational structure is the hierarchy system; in other words, a top-down communication system where there are various levels of authority. Other types are flat, matrix, team based, and divisional. Flat organizational structure is based on missing middle management where immediate and independent decisions are made. Matrix structure consists of multiplie managerial roles that encourages open communication unlike the hierarchy system. Team based structure consists of more than one team that support and aim for a common goal by performing assigned tasks. Divisional structure groups consist of employees based on departments instead of specific job roles and are held accountable by leaders. Mayo Clinic’s organizational structure is hierarchal and has a single governing board, Board of Trustees, that employees check in with. Leadership styles are also very imperative for a successful organization.
5 Leadership Theories Leadership roles are a driving force in. any successful organization. Selecting the appropriate leadershi0 style is imperative to improve overall performance of the organization, team, and individuals (Borowski& Meese, 2020). Choosing the right kind of leadership determines the success of an organization. Leadership theories include servant leadership, transactional leadership, transformational leadership, and others. Mayo Clinic does consist of a Board of Trustees which encourages leadership and has adopted effective leadership techniques that creates a strong reputation and quality care (Carryer& Steerioff, 2003). Transformational leadership is the most common form of leadership and has allowed employees to perform well and operate effectively.
