Project Management Issues and Concerns About the Project Timeline Christopher Bears Colorado State University Global PJM310: Introduction to Project Management DR Dwobeng Owusu-Nyamekye 02/04/2024 1
2 Project Management Issues and Concerns About the Project Timeline The purpose of this paper is to analyze the project management issues presented in the case study of Crosby Manufacturing Corporation from Kerzner's "Project Management Case Studies." The paper will discuss concerns regarding the project, its timeline, uncertainties about meeting deadlines, and the potential consequences of these issues. The body of the paper will first provide an overview of the case and identify the project management issues, followed by an analysis of the team's approach, challenges faced, and the eventual outcome. Cooperative Learning: I engaged in a cooperative discussion with my classmate, Alexis Burciaga, to dive into the project management issues outlined in the Crosby Manufacturing Corporation case study. Body: The Crosby Manufacturing Corporation wanted to put in place a new system called Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to help the company compete better and grow. However, they faced many problems during the project. First, they had a very tight schedule, which caused stress and strained their resources. They didn't plan well enough and didn't have enough time to test everything properly.
3 Second, they weren't sure if they could finish on time because of unrealistic estimates and unexpected problems. This made the team worried and unsure if they could succeed. Finally, these issues caused delays, went over budget, and affected the quality of the project. It hurt the company's reputation and finances. They didn't manage risks well, showing the need for better planning and management. Analysis: The team at Crosby Manufacturing Corporation had many problems while working on the ERP implementation project. They struggled because the timeline was too tight, and they didn't plan well enough. They mainly focused on finishing quickly, ignoring important things like assessing risks, involving stakeholders, and managing changes. This caused many problems during the project. They had trouble managing their resources because they had too many things to do at once and kept changing what they needed. They also had problems with communication and understanding who was responsible for what. Despite these challenges, they tried to solve problems as they came up, but they weren't able to fix everything.

4 Ultimately, the ERP project didn't go well. They missed deadlines, spent more money than expected, and stakeholders weren't happy. This shows how important it is to plan carefully, set realistic schedules, and deal with risks before they become big problems. Conclusion The Crosby Manufacturing Corporation case study highlights the complexities and challenges inherent in project management, particularly in large-scale initiatives such as ERP implementations. The issues surrounding project timeline, uncertainties, and consequences underscore the critical importance of diligent planning, effective communication, and proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
