MEDT 2501 Final Lesson Plan **Remember to use the Lesson Plan Guide to help you create this lesson plan** Name: Emma Flynn Name of the Lesson: Money Mia Grade / Subject Area: 1st grade Math 1. Georgia Content Standard(s) : 1.MDR.6 Use appropriate tools to measure, order, and compare intervals of length and time, as well as denominations of money to solve real-life, mathematical problems and analyze graphical displays of data to answer relevant questions. 2. ISTE Foundational Standard : 1.5 Computational Thinker 3. Student Learning Goals / Objectives : Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to use tools to measure, order, and compare time and money. 4. Launch of lesson : When beginning the lesson, I will be sure to have or say something that will grab the student's attention. For instance, I will use money to bring in the lesson. I may say something along the lines of “ Do you or anyone you know love money” 5. Instruction for the lesson: Please use bullets to indicate the sequence (step by step procedures) of your lesson. I will begin by getting the student's attention and having a discussion about how we use time and money in our everyday lives.
I will then explain the different hands on the clock and allow students to have a clock and explore it with a partner. I will then show them examples of money and the different bills and coins. We will practice counting money in a variety of ways (each student should already know how to count by different numbers) I will then use technology in my lesson. I will bring out the pizza-making technology and allow students to practice taking orders and counting change to the customers that come through. This technology will also allow them to practice time management in making sure each customer receives their order in a timely manner. 6. Strategies / Skills for Diverse Learners : This lesson can also be tailored to diverse students or students who may have a disability. If any student comes in the class that has a disability I would be sure to have the materials they need to be successful. For example, I would use an assistive device should a student need one. 7. Closure : I would bring the lesson to a close and tell them to quit working on what they are working on. I would then allow the students to come back together as a class and have a discussion and tell a couple of things that they learned during the lesson. I would then allow the students to ask any questions they may have from the lesson. 8. Assessment : I will then give the students a small quiz that will test their knowledge and what they learned during the lesson. On this quiz, I will be sure to add real-life questions about time and money that would allow the students to better comprehend the lesson.
9. Materials and Resources : Coins such as dimes, quarters, nickels, pennies, etc. Fake dollar bills Handheld clocks Pizza making technology 10. Instructional Use of Technology : In my lesson, I will use the pizza-making activity that we learned about in the innovations lab. 11. Lesson Enhancement : The technology I used in my lesson allowed the students to have a real-life experience of how to use money and time. It will allow them to place orders and use money to pay for the orders. 12. Resources : I used the Georgia Standards website along with materials we learned about in the innovations lab of the class. Reflection for this Assignment: After you have completed this assignment please answer these questions in 2-3 sentences each. (1) What do you see as your biggest challenge in this lesson for yourself? My biggest challenge during this lesson for myself is probably going to be keeping all the students under control while talking about money. I mean we all love to talk about money right?

(2) What do you see as the biggest challenge in this lesson for your students? The biggest challenge that I see my students facing is probably going to be staying focused. I could also see them having trouble counting money and applying that to counting time (3) How might you continue to improve, adjust, adapt, and change this lesson to better fit your students as they change year after year? I will have an evaluation with my students and see where they were successful and where they needed improvement. I will then take these evaluations and help change my lesson for the next year Remember to present your lesson to the class flipgrid : Be ready to present: Each student will have about 3-5 minutes to briefly present their lesson plan in the class flipgrid . You will not be reading directly from the lesson plan, but rather explaining the key points of the lesson to our class. Think of it as if you were the teacher who had to show other teachers how to use your lesson plan in their own classroom and why it would be beneficial to their students. Your presentation should include brief summaries of the following: o The learning goal of the lesson o The Instructions for conducting the lesson o The meaningful use of technology in the lesson o The closure/assessment of the lesson You are also encouraged to provide any links to resources/worksheets/websites/etc. in the comments of your video to help anyone watching better understand your lesson plan. Be sure to provide a video reply to 2 other student presentations
