Therefore, after the video, I researched and discovered that my state has a program called the "Disaster Recovery Assistance Program." This program, among other things, provides financial assistance for home repairs, temporary housing, and other disaster-related expenses. It helps Pennsylvanians without other means of recovery after surviving a calamity. When federal recovery assistance is unavailable, this program takes over for Pennsylvanians who might not be eligible for federal funding. This was super informative and very eye-opening to find out about because the borough I live in within Pittsburgh, PA, is not prone to flooding compared to other boroughs and counties surrounding the city of Pittsburgh. Thus, it was comforting to know that the state of PA has at least this resource and many others available.
As I delved deeper, I discovered that my state operates on local, state/federal, and private funding. However, the intricacies of each county and borough's financial operations pose a challenge. The city of Pittsburgh, surrounded by various government levels, each with its approach to handling
disasters, makes researching these types of financing a complex task. This complexity, however, adds an element of intrigue to the process.
However, one issue that particularly catches my eye and I foresee as one that might not be addressed as helpful would be local funding. I say this because this type of funding requires passing new taxes or fees and frequently necessitates extensive community involvement.
