2 Week 4 Discussion Question Discuss the consequences of missing signs of a medical emergency in the physician's office. Hello Class, When it comes to consequences due to missing signs in a medical emergency in a physician's office, it can vary from a slight slap on the hand, per se, to the loss of someone’s life and it is your fault. What the consequences are and how bad they are is determined by what type of emergency it was and if the patient was misdiagnosed, treated for something they didn’t have, or if they received treatment at all. There are so many varying factors in this situation. But medical malpractice seems to be the biggest consequence and has the worst repercussions. In Washington state in 2022, 34% of all physicians have been sued for medical malpractice. Results for the medical malpractice for physicians can include insurance premiums increasing, financial loss and payouts, their reputation being destroyed, administrative leave, and loss of their medical license to practice medicine. As Washington State has no cap for the amount of damages a physician may have to pay, this could completely ruin a physician on its own. I could go on and describe every consequence in detail, but I won’t. So, make sure you are paying attention to your patient.
