1 Armon’ da Davis Professor Whalen ENT 5936-0001 2 October 2020 Reflections: Speaker # -What skills, traits or personality characteristics did you relate to with the speaker?  Which ones did you feel were different? Throughout Eric’s presentation, I noticed that he too was a very patient individual. Starting a venture within the bio tech arena can be very discouraging after a while, as it can be quite ambitious. I too have become very patient since beginning my journey within this industry. I am looking forward to connecting with Eric to gain a greater understanding of how to navigate the bio-tech and medical industry. Eric also seemed very open to collaborating and helping others reach their goals. As am I, I’d love to connect with others in the class who may also be in the industry and exchange ideas that may be beneficial to both sides. From the nature of the conversation, Eric also seems like a very down to earth individual. What entrepreneurial classification do you feel the speaker fits in to (social, commercial, retail, STEM, hybrid, or other)?  What is it about the speaker's presentation that leads you to put them in this classification? When evaluating Eric’s entrepreneurial classification, I am quick to categorize him as a commercial entrepreneurship due to his obvious presence within the bio tech arena. As a company with primarily commercial and business clients. The knowledge that Eric presented throughout his presentation points to his commercial level of understanding that he brings to the table. The vernacular used to describe the dynamics behind his company also leads me to give him this classification. He can also be classified as a STEM entrepreneur due to his education in the hard sciences and the services that this business actually provides. What new concepts did you learn from the speaker's presentation and how are they relevant to your current and/or future entrepreneurial efforts? During Eric’s presentation I learned about several new concepts but what stuck out to me the most was his understanding of the nuances of the bio tech industry. He also stressed the importance of having research partners and collogues that will assist you in your growth including Bio Partnering meets and attending as many conferences as you can. Another piece of valuable information that Eric provided was to connect with professors at other universities to get assistance. Many of them do their own research and approaching them regarding something that they truly value can go a long way. Eric also enlightened us on the failing nature of pharmaceuticals and why exactly this happens.
2 How is the prior work that led up to the speaker's presented topics analogous to what you are experiencing now, or anticipate to encounter in the future? What benefit do think these prior works will provide to your entrepreneurial efforts in the future? The work that has led up to the speaker’s presentation is very applicable and analogous with my entrepreneurial journey. The time that one takes to research and become familiar with the industry is very pivotal to the growth and longevity of the firm. I’ve learned a lot throughout this journey as I continue to pick up more valuable knowledge on the way including Eric’s presentation. Eric’s work within the pharmaceutical industry has also opened my eyes to the reasons why the industry is the ay that it is. The barriers for entry and exit are ery high, as they should be. What do you think the future will hold for the speaker's presented topics?   How can you forecast a similar pathway that would lead you to a specific future outcome in your own entrepreneurial journey? In the future, I know that the area of bio-technology will become m more prevalent amongst commercial enterprises. The way in which pharmaceutical companies test and validate medications is only on the brik of being revolutionized by companies like Quarry BIO. Although these solutions often only cater to other businesses and large enterprises, this technology will also become more readily available for smaller companies. When this happens we will see a resurgence of smaller pharmaceutical and medical companies be it that the failure rate decreases for this industry.
