Tool 1: DNA analysis. This is a process that can identify mutations in your genes, chromosomes, or proteins. DNA is different in everybody, no one shares the same DNA. DNA testing has made it easier to solve crimes where a person's DNA (hair, saliva, blood, etc.) has been left behind. This also has made it easier to identify a Jane Doe body. DNA itself may not lead a jury to a guilty verdict without some other type of evidence. Individuals can also plant someone else’s DNA at the crime scene to set them up. DNA analysis can also be very costly and time consuming when looking for a criminal it may put a hinder on finding the person. When handling DNA evidence police need to be careful to not cross- contaminate their findings, to handles the evidence with care, properly labeling is also required. Pros and cons of DNA evidence . (n.d.). The Ambeau Law Firm.  https://www.ambe aulaw.com/blog/2020/jul y/pros-and-cons-of-dna- evidence Tool 2: Surveillance Cameras. Cameras have become a lot more common and more cost efficient for businesses, government offices, around the community and homes. This enhances security and safety for the community. This allows police to review footage if a crime occurs where there are cameras readily available. Having surveillance cameras in place may deter people from committing crimes in areas that have them. Video footage may not always have the clearest videos to be able to identify who or what is happening. Most surveillance cameras do not have audio. People in the community sometimes have concerns of the privacy when there are cameras around them at all times. Police need to be aware of the laws surrounding having surveillance cameras in places like having signs posted making people away that they will be under surveillance. Wilson, M. (2024, January 3). Advantages and disadvantages of using security cameras.  A1 Security Cameras https://www.a 1securitycameras.com/ blog/advantages-and- disadvantages-of-using- security-cameras/ Tool 3: GPS (global positions system) Tracking. Which makes it possible to locate items that may have been lost or stolen that has location services turned on it. If items such as phones, cars, tablets, and heavy machinery have been stolen or lost police have the opportunity to locate the item by tracking it to its last known location If location services are turned off on these items they might not be able to be located to the exact location and possibly the last known location, where could put a set back The laws have to be known by police in most cases to be able to track someone by GPS you have to receive permission from the courts.
