This week we discuss that solar energy is described by wavelength and energy content, but not all wavelengths play a role in photosynthesis. Can you/anyone summarize the wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum from least to most energy? Which wavelengths can used by plants for photosynthesis? Hello Professor, In describing the electromagnetic range, we can arrange it in order from least to most energy as follows: radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays. For photosynthesis, plants primarily utilize wavelengths within the visible light range. Specifically, they absorb light in the blue (around 425-450 nm) and red (around 600-700 nm) regions of the spectrum (Vernier Science Education, 2018). These specific wavelengths correspond to the absorption spectrum of chlorophyll a and b, which enables plants to effectively capture the required energy for photosynthesis. References Khan Academy.
