he New Wave style of the 1980s drew inspiration from the rebellious and avant-garde styles of the

What part does each play in the origin and distribution of fashionable clothes? How does this compare with
the roles played by each in the period of the New Look styles? 100 words min
In the 1990s, the relationship between French haute couture and prêt-à-porter underwent a
transformation. Haute couture maintained its status as the pinnacle of luxury and craftsmanship, creating
exclusive, made-to-order pieces for a select clientele. Prêt-à-porter, or ready-to-wear, became increasingly
influential, offering more accessible and mass-produced fashion. Haute couture set trends and maintained
prestige, while prêt-à-porter democratized fashion, making trends accessible to a broader audience. In the
New Look era, post-World War II, haute couture dominated, dictating trends. Prêt-à-porter emerged later to
cater to a growing middle class. The roles shifted in the 1990s, reflecting changes in consumer dynamics and
the fashion industry's evolution.

What is the difference between deconstructionist and minimalist fashion design? What designers have been
influential in each of these movements? 50 words min
Deconstructionist fashion design challenges traditional garment structures, playing with asymmetry
and unconventional shapes. Designers like Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons exemplify this approach.
Minimalist fashion focuses on simplicity and essentialism, often employing clean lines and a limited color
palette. Designers like Calvin Klein and Jil Sander have been influential in the minimalist movement.
What styles of the 1990s remain in fashion today? List and describe at least 3
Athleisure- The 1990s witnessed the rise of sportswear as casual wear, a trend that has evolved into
the popular athleisure style today. Athleisure seamlessly blends athletic and leisurewear, incorporating
comfortable and functional pieces like leggings, sneakers, and oversized sweatshirts into everyday fashion.
Grunge- The grunge aesthetic of the 1990s, characterized by flannel shirts, combat boots, and distressed
denim, has made a lasting impact. Today, elements of grunge are often incorporated into streetwear and
casual fashion, with designers and brands reinterpreting the laid-back and rebellious style for modern
audiences.
Slip Dresses- Slip dresses, popularized by 1990s icons like Kate Moss, remain a timeless and versatile wardrobe
staple. The sleek, minimalist silhouette of the slip dress has endured, and contemporary fashion often features
variations of this style, whether layered over T-shirts or worn on its own for a sophisticated yet effortless look.
