Critical Thinking: Reflection
Critical thinking is based on making the right decisions for yourself and others daily. It is
a process that requires good solid conclusions based on what is presented. Critical thinking
requires and open mind, good communication and clear thinking in order to choose the best
option. In this real-world scenario, Sally, a customer service representative, will exemplify how
to be a critical thinker.
Elements of Critical Thinking
In this scenario, all the elements were pointed toward the argument that was indicated,
the clarification that was needed, and the reasoning that the customer presented. In the final
evaluation of the situation, the problem was relevant and solved. Sally possessed critical thinking
and evaluated the situation that the customer presented by the argument that her colleagues were
having the day before. The colleagues were discussing a problem that Sally kept quiet about, but
listened thoroughly and realized that the argument in question had assumptions that she did not
agree with, which made her interaction with the customer the next day critically thought out the
problem presented.
Reason, Emotion, and Communication
Sally heard the argument and decided to put herself in the customer’s situation and decided
that she needed to evaluate the situation by analyzing and gathering information to prove that
there was a problem, and a solution was needed. The terms of the policy were insufficient and
after providing the evidence to prove why the warranty needed to be changed, Sally decided to
take action in making a proposal to rectify the problem.

Fallacies and Argument
The fallacies that were presented in this scenario were based on the argument that came
from the manage. The manager stated, “How can you argue for a change in the warranty when
you are late to work most of the time”. (Critical Thinking Scenario, 2021) The manager did not
agree with Sally’s proposal and attacked her reasoning about the warranty and how it could help
the customers, and the company.
Conclusion
Critical thinking is a process that we use every day to solve problems in the workplace to
persuade and benefit everyone. The barriers that she encountered were there, but she managed to
overcome them through good communication and reasoning. Sally solved the problems through
critical thinking within the workplace by analyzing and gathering information to prove what was
needed to make the change and it was approved.
