2 News Media in Contemporary American Society Traditional News Media Throughout the years current and major events were0 provided in a more traditional way, from local and daily news to worldwide news, and it was shared to the public from radio, television, newspaper, and magazines which has played a major role in the way Americans were educated about what was going in the world. Traditional media has always and still does play an important role in politics, the candidates, and any information that is needed about keeping up with campaign elections, the media gave an open door to the importance of politics. Traditional media also provides weather, music, sports, for everyone to enjoy, and is still preferred by some. According to Ace Project (2022), “The use of traditional media (television, radio and newspapers) remains an important venue to reach out to youth even in an era of new and changing media options and outlets. In many countries, radio messages are still popular and effective among local communities, especially in remote areas where people are more likely to have access to radio rather than television or print/electronic media.” Businesses also share their product and services for the public to be aware of what is available to them and its importance. The news is a very essential part of daily lives to make the best possible decisions in their lives, good or bad the media is a trusted source of news that provided facts. Social Media Social media started as a way to digitally connect with friends and family and has become a necessary tool for many other entities. Besides bringing people together from all over the world to keep contact with people,0 many users are providing information about their services and products as well within a wider range and quicker response. Shaw (2018) states,
3 “The reach and influence of social media is a treasure in the business and trade industries, where the need to engage and persuade the market is of top priority.” With the success of social media there is a downside and that is the news information that is not always truthful. Many people look to social media for information that is best considered misinformation or bad communication either by news reporting’s, or by persuading people to buy products and services that falsely printed which brings out the negativity of social media. Traditional media and social media have very many similarities such as providing and sharing the news, entertainment, and promoting businesses and services and they both are able to reach large audiences, the only real difference is that social media is able to spread the work much faster compared to traditional media. They both play major roles and can be used together to provide necessary information to the world.
