How does this work reflect the Geometric Period?
This krater uses the art of storytelling in the vase, which was very common in the Geometric art period. The rebirth of narrative is also reflected in the works of Homer written around the same time. 2.

The 8th century BCE marks the beginning of the Geometric and Orientalizing periods in which Greece waned out of its dark ages and began to trade with cities in Europe and Asia. 3.
What was the purpose of this krater? Kraters were used to mix wine and water but this one in particular marked the grave of a greek man that died around 740 BCE and meant as a testament of the potter’s skill and the dead greek man’s wealth and position in society. 4.

It's a mourning scene with a man laying on his bier and a grand chariot representing the procession of honor of the deceased. Its designs are full of abstract shapes and circles, many M-

12. Although the Syphnian Treasury does not have Ionic columns, it does have a continuous sculptured frieze on all four sides of the building.
