Learning Journal Unit 1 I live close to Washington, DC, and this assignment challenged me to do something I had never done before: ponder about art and what it means to me. I appreciate art in all its versions and enjoy learning about it. In DC, there are many art museums that I love to visit often. Since most artists I known are really unique people with incredible and rare talents, I frequently wish I was an artist myself. Different people are so innately good at various things. In my opinion, art is a talent that cannot be adequately taught, and the majority of talented people are born with this unique talent. My belief that our universe was created by a being and that we yet know so little about Earth grows stronger as I get older. Such as beautiful sunsets and nature feels like there is the superpower. Every time I see them, the colors are so different, the scale is huge when I see them from below, and the patterns are repeated but also different at the same time. I completely forget about my troubles when I watch them while listening to jazz or Hawaiian music, and I sincerely appreciate the moment and the lovely things God provided for me. It encourages me to concentrate on appreciating all the things provided in my life and enables me to prioritize what is important and what is not. I discovered several different definitions of art in this assignment, such as the “expression of human-created skill,” “imitation of nature,” “unceasing effort to compete with the beauty of flowers,” effort to create a different reality, and so on. I believe that art may be created by anything as long as it is attractive enough to be remembered and inspires me in some manner. I hardly ever go to art museums, but I frequently look for lovely paintings on Google. The shapes, colors, and harmony of those paintings have always been attractive to me when I look at them, regardless of the messages the artists were trying to convey. I consider this combination of aesthetic appeal and the originality of the painters' themes to be my personal definition of art. 2. In this first week of the course, what do you think will be your strengths and weaknesses in studying Art History? I love being a nurse and studying in science because I enjoy caring for people. Despite not being a part of my career or major, art is undoubtedly one of my interests. I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a "scientifically right" solution to anything in art history—or at least, it's not about getting the perfect answer—after completing the weekly reading assignments for this class. We have discussed the various ways in which individuals define and view art. In order to comprehend the messages that artists are conveying when they create the subject matters, we have also discussed how to do formal analysis and investigate the historical context.
I believe that the definition of art, visual analysis, and history do have similar answers, but there is no exact one accurate answer for everyone because we all see the world differently. I think the answers to the questions about what constitutes art, visual analysis, and history are related, but I don't think there is a single, correct response that applies to everyone because everyone has a unique perspective. My problem is that I lack the training to come up with my own original solutions, particularly in the extremely ambiguous field of art. I was taught as a nurse to consult the textbook and always have the ideal course of action. The thing that scares me the most about art is its ambiguity. Additionally, I am a horrible painter, therefore I occasionally doubt my suitability to evaluate the works created by talented painters. I love to decorate and fashion design which is another form of art. I still enjoy viewing artwork and looking for hidden messages in it despite my concerns. I believe that my strengths in learning the fundamentals of art history would be curiosity and interest. References: theartassignment. (2020, July 23). The definition of art . YouTube.
