I believe that visual arts are far more significant and valuable today than they have ever been as public
communication tools for essential messages and ads. In the past, governments frequently ordered visual
arts for propaganda goals.
Napoleon, for instance, commissioned a variety of paintings from numerous artists, including Gros,
because he appreciated the value of the visual arts. Napoleon was typically depicted in these paintings
as a messiah with a bold and compassionate heart who would not fail his destiny as the protector of
great France (Harris and Zucker, n. d.). Some nations, including China, Iran, and North Korea, still use
these techniques to unify the populace against a common foe through posters and films.
Propaganda of this kind that incorporates visual arts aspects is quite successful in motivating large
crowds. In the western world, posters and other forms of media are used to promote various
movements and educational endeavors. For instance, health authorities recently employed a variety of
posters to encourage the use of masks, hand washing, and other associated activities during this Covid
outbreak. I believe that many of these posters used comparable Neoclassical elements to encourage
serenity.
A group of "art activists" (also known as "artivists") who were created in 2014 identify as "artivists"—
part activists and half artists who promote social change. They view creative expression as a non-
intrusive means of altering attitudes and behavior as well as learning what serenity looks like. Over the
years, they have collaborated on a variety of initiatives, including a mural project about masculinity,
peace, and security as well as an anti-corruption campaign that included murals in five Afghan provinces.
