Before doing anything professional or nonprofessional, I always ask myself, "What would Jesus do." This ensures that I am making the best decision because God guides me through doing so. Being a special education teacher is a calling and a gift from God to teach his uniquely designed children. Putting God first in my career has given me the patience required for the job and the ability to lead. It was once said that "special education teachers with a Christian worldview are less likely to be overwhelmed and burn out than teachers who work without that basis of faith." (Special Education From a Christian Perspective) I believe this is true. After all, I haven't had to take days off from school because I'm burnt out from teaching, and I don't get overwhelmed with work. The Christian worldview is essential for many reasons. First, these elements are God's teachings and define our relationship with him. Faith, love, and a daily walk should be in our minds always when waking up. "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude." (1 Corinthians 13:4). The best way to serve God is to help others around me flourish. As I walk by faith and as an educator, I'm expected to treat others equally. I can't have favorite students in class or treat others better than the next. We have to encourage our students to be role models so they can welcome other students who are different from them. "Educators should promote social justice and equity, maintain appropriate standards of confidentiality, and exercise fairness in all areas including assessment." (Professional Dispositions of Learners) Language, culture, and family background influence the student's learning because it's a part of who they are. This tells us how they act and also learn. As educators, we must respect our students' culture because their backgrounds are essential to how they will learn. "Educators
should be sensitive to individual learning and students' social needs and embrace the community's cultural diversity. They should develop and maintain educational communities marked by respect for others. They should interact with their students, fellow educators, administrators, parents, and other community members courteously and establish relationships characterized by respect and rapport". (Professional Dispositions of Learners) Larissa comes from Spanish culture, so the way she communicates and hears things is different from an English-speaking learner. The way she distinguishes things is different and challenging to understand compared to others who speak English. If I were unresponsive to this vital information, I could pass the wrong information to someone who could help diagnose her disability. So to help Larissa be understood better, I could ask that an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) staff member work with her instead to help her with this issue. It was said that Larissa was found eligible for written expression and executive functioning due to a diagnosis of dyslexia and ADHD. The three research-based strategies I would use would be to provide additional practice activities in writing, repeat directions with step-by-step instruction, and provide a glossary in content areas with pictures to help her remember the words and letters. Given additional practice, worksheets will help exercise Larissa's hand in writing her letters, numbers, and sentences. Information can be provided in smaller steps, so this can help Larissa with prior knowledge that she knows. While doing this, I can have her repeat the information I just told her in her own words. As Larissa progresses, I will add in daily routines with her, provide a copy of notes from class, and combine verbal and visual information to ensure she is mastering what is being asked.

The main important factor in understanding education for children is that you are attracting the interest in knowing their strengths and weaknesses. Knowing the uniqueness of your students, you should include different learning strategies to engage in their learning. Getting to know your students more personally would tell you their strengths and weaknesses and what would help make learning more enjoyable for them. Technology is a boost to enhance learning. Children are exposed to other trends when working with technology individually. On the other hand, peer learning gets students to interact and learn from each other. In closing, we must be role models for our students by encouraging them to welcome other peers who are different from them. God cares for us; to be more like him, we must also care for others. Mr. Fleming showed us this when he notified the office and gave them the documentation from Rita if Larissa's father should come to the school. When teachers take the time to care for students, you start a better relationship with them and get better academic results. "Educators should demonstrate professional friendliness, warmth and genuine caring in their relationships with others while providing intellectual, emotional and spiritual support."
