Oxford University Press, Incorporated, 2022 Roberto Gonzalez Echavarria focuses on the romanticism to modernism styles in poetry during the 19th century by using Andres Bello as a prime example for romanticism. Eschevarria expresses that during this time period, poetry was not a way to express emotions and those pieces of literature were not taken seriously. He claims that because Bello’s writing and take on romanticism was more philosophical than anything he was able to grab the attention of many. Bello prized himself on rejecting colonialism and embracing the culture that the Americas has and uniting them under one language.
