This article recounts an individuals experience while living in Auschwitz, what is know as the most
lethal Nazi concentration camp to exist. The article recounts the experience of Zalmen Gradowski has he wrote about it during his time at Auschwitz until his death in 1944. This article also discusses the conditions is various parts of Auschwitz and how tit effected the prisoners that lived there. The fact that the prisoners could smell death at Auschwitz is another example of how an individual’s senses played a role at Auschwitz and in their experiences while they were there. The contents of this article help establish
it as a scholarly article because it provides a detailed account of what is was like living in Auschwitz by examining the writing of an individual who was a prisoner at Auschwitz during World War 2. This article will help me with my research because I am wanting to delve more into the first-hand experiences of those who were prisoners in concentration camps. Wachsmann, N. (2021). This article focuses on the experience of those who lived in Auschwitz. Auschwitz is said to be the most lethal concentration camp run by the Nazis during World War 2. Not only does it touch on the history of the senses and emotions of those living in Auschwitz but it also draws on the spatial history as well. It talks about how the prisoner’s engagement with their individual spaces such as their barracks, latrines, crematoria, and construction sites can expose parts of the experience of living in Auschwitz that have not be clearly visible in previous historical accounts. This is a scholarly source because it was written by an individual with extensive experience in holocaust research. This will help me with my research because I want to learn more about the experiences of those who actually lived in Auschwitz and what their experience was like in order to learn more about what went on.

This article discusses the fiction novel The Tattooist of Auschwitz
by Heather Morris and how it can lead to the trivialization of the Holocaust. The Tattooist of Auschwitz
uses the true story of Lale Solokov’s experience during the Holocaust to create this fictional story line. Lale Solokov was specifically tasked with tattooing the numbers onto the prisoner’s that came intro Auschwitz. While this novel received
extensive accolades in the publishing world, it received extensive criticism in the academic world for how it portrayed life during the Holocaust and specifically at Auschwitz. It was specifically noted by Wand Witek-Malicka, a researcher at the Auschwitz Memorial Research Center, that there are several historical misconceptions and inaccuracies that paint an, “overall inauthentic picture of the camp reality.” I believe that this article is important for raising awareness into misinformation that can be spread about the Holocaust, even in a fictional sense, and taking the steps to recognize and prevent it from happening in the future. This helps me with my research because by reading the arguments these international scholars have made about the inaccuracies of this novel, I can analyze multiple viewpoints of a singular issue leading to a more well-rounded argument.
