Report
Teach a Friend Report Name : Annabella Policicchio Who did you teach : Friend (just specify the relation to you, i.e. – neighbor, friend at work, etc.) Instructions Write your responses to the items below. Make sure to answer each of the questions in your responses. Note that the minimum word count for full credit is 150 words (total of all responses). Your instructor will grade you according to the grading rubric in the assignment in your course. When referencing a passage, include the citation and paste the actual passage into your response. If the passage is long, just cite it and abbreviate or summarize it so the reader knows what the passage is about but it doesn’t take up too many lines on this report. Note - boxes will expand as you type Describe your experience: Provide a thoughtful reflection of your experience. What gospel principle from this week’s lesson did you teach? Include specific quotes or references to scripture or prophetic teachings that you used. How did it go? How did you feel while teaching and afterward? What reaction or feedback did you receive? What teaching methods did you use (thought-provoking question, discussion, game, object lesson, video, other method)? 1. This week, I taught my friend using much of the material I learned in this week's assignments. I explained the Birth, Baptism, and temptations of Christ. She had many questions about how Christ had both a mortal and divine soul, so we delved into Matthew 1:18-25 and "The Birth of Jesus: Luke 1-2" by bible project. After that, we moved on to his unknown childhood ministry and how he panicked his parents while "...going about his father's business." Luke 2:40-52. Next, I emphasized how important it was for Jesus to be baptized regardless of his clean slate and how it granted him authority to obtain the priesthood and the gift of the holy ghost. "The Baptism of Jesus: Luke 3-9" by bible project. Lastly, we discussed the temptations Christ faced and how he overcame them. I also acknowledge that though he was able to deny Satan, it still took a toll on him spiritually. 2. It was a successful session. I love the opportunity to teach, and I had an open-minded student to familiarize the material with. She enjoyed the lesson and commented on her bewilderment at my knowledge of the topic. Additionally, she was satisfied with the answers she received to her comments. I love how strong the presence of the spirit is when I teach. In this session, in particular, I could feel it for longer because we both had an excessive amount of time to counsel. Overall, I loved having the opportunity to grow and emulate Christ. This activity improves my ability to teach effectively, and I feel more confident every time. I am grateful to have had a receptive student to help me overcome my anxiety focused on teaching. I usually get nervous, but she was very patient with me, which helped. Luckily, I was able to help someone else understand this topic better while improving my skills. 3. Once again, I used visual sources to cement the concepts I was trying to teach. Things such as reading and videos are impactful, and I was excited to present what I had prepared for this lesson. When preparing my lessons, I also look for sources to implement if the recipient asks a certain set of questions. I get hesitant that I don't always cover everything with the appropriate amount of depth, so I plan additional sources. Something new I tried this time was to have an opening and closing prayer. This was something I failed to include in the last couple of lessons, and I wanted to
enhance the ability of the holy ghost to participate with us. I feel this technique helps set the tone and adds a reverent element to the session. Furthermore, I noticed that it was easier for me to remain on topic and not get distracted by chatting. Describe the insights you gained: What did you learn from this experience about being a teacher of the gospel? What deeper insights or understanding of the principle(s) being taught did you gain from teaching the principle(s) to another person? 1. I learned that there are special blessings that come with teaching the gospel. I feel reassured that I am helping others and am pleasing God. Though this may be a school assignment, I have enjoyed the spiritual fulfillment and divine bonding it has given me. By being a missionary, I fulfill my discipleship project standards by emulating Christ. I also love the journey and benefits that affect both parties involved. Though I won't go on a mission, I will seek opportunities to serve and breed kindness. Finally, I want to be a peacemaker. I want to invoke peace and harmony among the people in my life. I may not be hostile. But I do want to work with my patience in order to be a better peacemaker. Frequently, I can't overcome my natural man, who is filled with anger and discord. This weakness hinders my tolerance. I will work on reinforcing this Christlike attribute in my journey. 2. Something I discovered was that angels visited Christ after Satan tempted him. This was something I wasn't aware of. From primary, I was always taught that Christ was a spiritually strong man. However, I forgot to consider how Jesus's partially mortal soul still was affected. Jesus still struggled and had emotions. He felt doubt, fear, anxiety, and devastation. As I have gotten older and more experienced, I have felt better connected to the Savior the more I've learned about Him. I am comforted by the fact that Christ knows my struggles and the burden that comes with them. I face many uncommon struggles. But I feel reassured that Christ understands what I am facing. Every day, I am grateful to draw upon his strength and to endure alongside Him. Ultimately, Christ is my brother, and I can confide in him when I am weak. If anything, Jesus knows what it is like to be an outcast.
