Module 4: Developing Collaborative Partnerships By: Uruj Chaudhary School of Education, Touro College Professor Stewart 2/28/2024 What advice would you give Ms. Grelak about instruction for English learners with learning problems?
The best advice I would give Ms. Grelak would be to practice a multicultural teaching approach for her class. She would need to read books from different cultures to her students. By making this approach, students will learn about different cultures and become educated about them. "Students benefit from learning that there are multiple perspectives on any issue and from learning how to think critically about these issues (Bryant et al., 2019)". "I have many students from diverse backgrounds and many with special learning needs. I want to meet all their needs while trying to teach the curriculum for my grade level and meet their needs" (Bryant, et. Al., 2019) What should Ms. Grelak's next steps be with Gabriel? Do you agree that Ms. Grelak should refer Allen for a special education evaluation? Why or why not? Before Ms. GrelakGrelak refers Allen to special education evaluation, she should observe how the student behaves, identify his learning disabilities, use the RTI method, provide positive reinforcement, work 1:1 in a group setting, and determine his best learning style. "Allen is two years behind in reading and mathematics, and his mom is concerned about his lack of progress (Bryant et al., 2019)". Ms. Grelak is making the best decision for Allen. It is essential to make students feel comfortable, especially from different backgrounds. "I have many students from diverse backgrounds and many with special learning needs. I want to meet all their needs while trying to teach the curriculum for my grade level and meet their needs" (Bryant et al., 2019).” Reference
