SEVEN SECRETS REFLECTION #2
For this reflection, you will focus on the following “Secret”
SECRET 4—Nothing is new: Everything that happened in the past will
happen again.
Part 1: Discussion of how Secret 4 stood out to you in this module.
When I first read the fourth secret, I immediately could see why it was on the list. I personally have constantly seen trends that are only 10 years old make a comeback into popular media circles. I’ve always remembered my parents and older relatives telling me and my siblings “that isn’t new, we used to do that in the 80s or early 90s”. It gave that feeling that of what goes around comes around. Everything ends up recycled at one point or another in time. The parts in the text that surprised me about Secret 4 was the pushback of all of these new technologies and common appliances that were coming out then and how they were seen as a negative concept that would ruin society. Part 2: Current Example of Secret 4
A current example of “Nothing is new: Everything that happened in the past will happen again”, would be fashion trends. Lately, some of the most popular trends from the early 2000s have been making a comeback. For some they never left, but the trend of Y2K, which was made popular by fashion icons and pop artist in
the early 2000s has seen it way back to mainstream. It consisted of baggy jeans, copped tops, and anything that would make a statement or stand out. This trend has been made popular again by current social media outlets like Tik Tok and a popular HBO show called Euphoria. The comeback of this fashion trend embodies Secret 4 fully, nothing is ever truly new. Part 3: Current Example of Secret 4
A second current example of Secret 4 would be the current movie themes. As
of lately, studios have been coming out with a lot of remakes of movies and musical
that were popular a decade or 2 ago. The remakes of Willy Wonka and Mean Girls are the first that come to mind. Studios seem to be trying to copy of the success of the past editions of the current remakes and bring in a whole new generation of success. Along with movies we’ve seen older songs bridges, courses and beats being sampled in new music today. With music there seems to be even more recycling and reiteration going on.
