Content: Interests Context: As a young child I was always fascinated by the natural world. I loved playing in nature, digging in the dirt, and exploring the wildlife and plants around me. I was always amazed by the different shapes, colors, and textures that I found in the environment. Relationship: My interest in nature has stayed with me my entire life. It has influenced my choices of hobbies and activities, as well as my career path. Nature has taught me to be patient and observant, to take time to appreciate beauty, and to respect all living things. This connection to nature was an important part of my Miskasowin as a child; it helped shape who I am today.   (Content) Family of Origin (Context) I was born and raised in a family of four; my mother, father, older brother, and myself. My parents had immigrated from India to the United States a few years before I was born. Both my mother and father worked hard to provide for our family financially. (Relationship) Growing up in this environment instilled in me strong values of hard work and perseverance. It also taught me the importance of respect for my elders and the need to take care of those who take care of us. These lessons are something that I carry with me today as they have shaped me into the person I am today.   Content: Place of birth Context: I was born in a small town in the Midwest and lived there until I was six. Relationship: Growing up in a small town meant that everyone knew everyone else and there was strong sense of community. It felt safe, secure, and familiar to me. The people
and relationships in my life were an important part of my Miskasowin because they taught me the value of kindness, loyalty and acceptance. They showed me that even though we may be different, we can still respect one another and work towards common goals. This has stayed with me throughout my life and helped shape who I am today.   Content: Finances Context: As a child, I did not have to worry about money. My parents provided for all my basic needs, and I was able to take part in some extra activities, like music lessons and summer camp. Relationship: Having access to these extra activities gave me experiences that broadened my understanding of the world and helped me to develop a more informed worldview. It also made me feel secure knowing that I was taken care of, and that I wouldn't have to worry about finances as much as an adult would. This sense of security has given me a strong connection to my Miskasowin; knowing that I am provided for and can focus on fulfilling my responsibilities without major financial stress or insecurity.   (Content) Education (Context) Kindergarten: I attended kindergarten at my local public school and had a great experience. (Relationship) As a child, I was eager to go to school and learn more about the world around me. My kindergarten teachers were very supportive and encouraging, helping foster my love of learning. They taught me the basics of reading, writing, math, science and social studies which set a strong foundation for my future schooling. Going to school also provided
me with an opportunity to meet new friends and gain valuable life skills like problem solving, working in teams and being respectful of others.   (Content) Friends (Context) I was a shy child, but had one close friend that I played with almost every day. We often made up stories and games together that involved our stuffed animals. (Relationship) Having this one best friend was incredibly important to me at a young age. She helped me become more outgoing and gave me a sense of belonging and security in the world around me. It taught me the importance of having friends, companionship, and unconditional love from someone outside my family.   (Content) Immediate Family (Context) My immediate family consisted of my parents and two older brothers. We were a happy family who did many activities together, such as going camping and playing board games. My brothers and I frequently played sports in the backyard or went for walks with our dog. (Relationship) Growing up in a loving and supportive family shaped my understanding of Miskasowin. I felt safe knowing that my parents were there to provide me with the guidance, love, and support I needed to be successful in life. This experience taught me the importance of having people who care for you and understand your needs, which are key elements of Miskasowin.

(Content) Religion (Context) As a child, I was raised attending a Christian church. My parents took me every Sunday and encouraged me to participate in various activities such as Sunday School and youth group. (Relationship) I remember feeling loved and accepted by the members of my church community, feeling safe and secure in their presence. The teachings of the Bible were foundational to my life and shaped my decision-making process in many ways, teaching me values such as respect, humility, compassion and justice. Through my faith I learned that everyone is worthy of love and respect regardless of their background or beliefs, which has been a cornerstone of my Miskasowin.   Content: Culture Context: As a child, I grew up in a small town in rural Canada. It was very much rooted in European culture, with many of the traditional values and customs that were passed down from my grandparents. Many of the foods we ate were traditional recipes that had been passed down through generations. There was also a strong sense of community, where people looked out for each other and worked together to support one another. Relationship: Growing up surrounded by a rich cultural environment gave me an appreciation and respect for our heritage, while also teaching me the importance of being part of a larger community. I learned to be proud of who I am and where I come from, understanding that it is important to preserve these values for future generations. This has shaped my outlook on life and how I view the world around me today.
Content: Gender Context: I was assigned female at birth and identified as such, wearing dresses and playing with dolls. Relationship: Growing up with my gender identity, I always felt like a girl, and that was reflected in the way I dressed and the toys I played with. I was interested in activities and pursuits traditionally associated with feminine roles, such as cooking, baking, painting, drawing and playing dress up. These activities taught me valuable lessons about nurturing my creativity and engaging in self-care. They shaped my understanding of Miskasowin by helping me to find harmony between being a responsible member of society while also maintaining my own individuality.   Content: Sexual Orientation Context: At a young age I noticed that I had feelings towards members of the same sex, but I was unsure of how to express these feelings or talk about them. Relationship: Growing up with little exposure to LGBTQ+ topics, I felt like there was something wrong with me and that nobody would understand my feelings. This led to a feeling of isolation and confusion as I navigated my identity in the world.   Content: Pets Context: When I was about 4-years old, my family got a pet cat. His name was Oscar and he was all white with orange eyes. We used to take him for walks outside on sunny days, play fetch with him and cuddle together while watching TV.
Relationship: Having Oscar around gave me a sense of companionship and comfort. He became an important part of our family unit, providing me with unconditional love and loyalty which taught me invaluable lessons about trust and responsibility.     Content: Work Context: From a very young age, my parents instilled in me the importance of hard work and dedication. They would often take me along to their jobs so that I could witness firsthand what it meant to put in a hard day's work and be devoted to one's professional life. Relationship: Seeing first-hand how much effort went into their respective jobs made me realize how important it is to be committed to any task given whether it's schoolwork or something personal. It showed me that integrity, tenacity, and perseverance are key elements for success in life no matter what profession you choose.
