Making Connections
Question 13: Look back at the lesson topics in the questions above and consider the flow of the course topics. How did your learning from one lesson impact a later lesson? How was earlier knowledge increased or added to by a later lesson? The main example I remember is that from lesson 9—10, I could really learn what work is because I knew how to sustain myself. When you learn how to help yourself, you can truly know how to work hard. By learning what it meant to be self-reliant, I could learn what hard work does for myself. Question 14: Ponder your learning from this semester which involved other people (discussion boards, the Gathering, Teach a Friend, etc.). How was your learning enhanced by interacting with others? I could see so many other points of view. When I interacted with others, I could see so many other peoples’ point of view. When you learn by yourself, you are limited to what you see and know. But when you have other people in your learning, you can learn from and teach each other. The objectives of this course are to become an effective learner, become self-reliant, and serve your family, church, and community. Answer the following questions regarding your progress of these three objectives. Question 15: In what ways are you a more effective learner now than when the course began? Now I feel more motivated to do the work for myself. I used to just do the work because of other people, but now it is for me. Question 16: How are you more self-reliant now than when the semester began? I am more self-reliant now because I am motivated to work for myself. I depended on people to make me do work and now I motivate myself. Question 17: How has your service to your family, church, and community changed since the beginning of the semester? I am more willing to do service and I seek it out much more than I used to. Application Question 18: In this course, much emphasis has been placed on applying your learning to your life. What specific concepts will you continue to apply to your life after the semester ends? How will you apply these concepts? I want to continue to work on working, family relationships, and goal setting. I will do this by continuing this program and finishing it, continuing to try to get to know my family better, and setting weekly goals that I can accomplish.
