1 The Role of the Educator Robert J. Burden College of Education, Grand Canyon University SEC-502: Foundations in Secondary Education for Graduate Students Dr. Shawna Martino 11/15/2023
2 Role of the Educator The children need us. By us I mean educators. Educators are seen as someone who teaches children day in and day out on how to read, write, add and subtract. The role of an educator is much more than that. Yes, our duty as an educator is to ensure that the students that enter the classrooms are taught a proper education so that they can be productive members of society after High School. But, our duty goes beyond just that. As an educator we are role models for the students that walk down the hallways. We as educators have our professional dispositions that we not only abide by but live by in order to ensure that each student is getting the best education that they are deserved (GCU, 2014). The purpose of this essay is to shed light on the role of the educator and their importance. Purpose of Education Begin this paragraph with a topic sentence that previews what will be discussed in this section. According to the rubric, to earn Target in this area you must share a well-thought out statement regarding the purpose of education, why do we educate our kids ? Since this is a content area on the rubric, you should also include research backed details with citations in this section of your philosophy. Meeting Learner Needs and Standards-Based Instruction This paragraph should also begin with a strong topic sentence that outlines what will be discussed in this section. To earn Target, you must discuss the teacher’s role as a leader and advocate according to some of the Model Code of Ethics for Educators . Again, support your ideas with scholarly research and citations. Upholding the Expectations of the Profession Yes, begin the final content paragraph with a strong topic sentence. Discuss an educator’s role in upholding the expectations of the profession including: codes of ethics, professional standards of practice, and relevant law and policies. As the last content section, this discussion should also be supported with scholarly research can citations. Upholding Issues of Ethics and Quality This paragraph needs a topic sentence. Then discuss how the educator can handle issue of ethics and quality as it relates to student information and its proper use. Use support for this section by citing an ethical framework or law that applies here. Conclusion Review what you have just written about in your essay. The topics you have discussed should be mentioned/summarized here. This paragraph is just as important as any other paragraph in this essay. Make it strong and end with a solid summary of the ideas you have shared. This is NOT the place to begin new topics – if you have not talked about it in the essay, do not include it here. Including an introduction, appropriate headings/subheadings, and a conclusion impacts the format section of the rubric.
