W12 SW Disciple Activity: Restorative Justice Instructions Answer the following questions completely. Question 1 Could you forgive in the way the people describe in the film? Why or why not? Are there extenuating circumstances for the directive of the Lord? When it comes to forgiveness it takes a lot of strength and faith. It’s a change in feelings and attitude depending on the severity of the situation. Not forgiving others that commit a crime prevents a person from finding peace and healing and can cause a lot of bitterness. When an individual sin they must sincerely confess all of their sins to God and find ways ro repent of them. As described in the video forgiveness is not about belittling the person that has made a mistake but it’s getting rid of any feelings of resentment or vengeance towards that person that may have caused a lot of harm. No matter what a person may have done or who they are, God will offer them forgiveness in Christ fully and freely. Question 2 Is there ever a time when His commandment doesn't apply to a particular circumstance? BYU-Idaho SW 260
The Ten Commandments are essential to live by in order to protect the higher good and well being of all. If these laws of God were upheld by the majority as their moral compass and values - peace and love would reign in the world. I would not say that people “need” the 10 commandments to live a “moral life.” God's commandments help all of us find guidance and how we should live with one another. All of His commandments will apply to each and everyone of our lives at some point in our lives. Question 3 Why do you think forgiveness is so powerfully healing? Why then do you think forgiveness is sometimes so incredibly difficult? Forgiveness is so powerfully healing because it allows us to live in peace. It also helps us to find forgiveness for those that may have harmed us. It is the medicine for the spirit, mind, and the body. Research has shown that forgiveness helps improve our health, reduces anger, depression, anxiety, and stress. We tend to think that if we forgive others that have harmed us, it means that we are ok with the offense. That’s why it is so hard to find forgiveness. Question 4 Who benefits most: the one forgiving or the one being forgiven? BYU-Idaho SW 260
It all depends on the parties involved when it comes to forgiving one another. Sometimes, it’s hard to remember that forgiveness benefits the forgiver more than the one who is forgiven. Ultimately, forgiveness is especially challenging because it’s hard to let go of what happened. BYU-Idaho SW 260
