Young Earth Creationism Essay: By: Kaylyn Whitacre We will be looking at the foundation of Young Earth Creationism and how it compares to a Christians view on creation. Young Earth Creationists and Christians seem to have a similar worldview and faith in the story of creation. A Young Earth Creationism view is the belief that this Earth we live on was created in 6, 24 hour periods. So, what exactly does a Young Earth Creationism worldview entail? Young Earth Creationists believe that around 6,000 years ago the Earth was created in 6, 24-hour periods. We also, as Young Earth Creationists believe that about “2,300–3,300 years before Christ, the earth's surface was radically rearranged by Noah's Flood.” (“Lesson: Young Earth Creationism”) Creationists believe that all the animals that were not on-board Noah’s Ark passed away during the flood which in turn created the fossils we can find today. “Therefore, creationists believe that the global, catastrophic Flood was responsible for most (but not all) of the rock layers and fossils.” (Mortenson) Young Earth Creationists are also called Christians; hence we all believe this worldview came from the Bible and is divinely inspired by God. Are there any similarities in Young Earth and Christian views on creationism? As I discussed in the paragraph above, Young Earth Creationists is just a scientific way of saying Christian. We both believe that the Earth was created about 6,000 years ago in 6 different days. Those 6 days are recorded in Genesis 1 which is where both Young Earth Creationists and Christian Creationists base our foundation on the creation of this world. Are there any differences between Young Earth and Christian views on creationism? There are barely any differences between these two worldviews. They are both rooted in the Bible as the truth in which they live. Unlike an evolutionists there are no philosophical problems
with young earth and Christian earth. Hugh Ross writes that “It has been my experience that attempting to persuade young-earth creationists to adopt an old-earth perspective on creation based on overwhelming and consistent scientific evidence that establishes Earth and the universe are billions of years old is a fruitless endeavor.” (Ross) Both young earth and Christian creationists remain deeply rooted in the Bible as the only true story of creation. In conclusion, both Young Earth Creationists and Christian Creationists commonly see eye-to-eye on the story of creation. They are both deeply rooted in the Bible as the only true story of creation dating back to around 6,000 years. If tried on their worldview these creationists will hold fast and stand firm in their faith.
