Sample Student Survey Analysis 2 The sample students survey of 14 boys and 21 girls indicates that students have various preferences related to content areas, classroom activities, and extracurriculars. This paper will analyze patterns in the data to inform instructional planning and differentiation in order to meet the educational needs of the learners. What patterns do you see in the data? What conclusions can you draw from the data about the students in this class? Female students are less likely to be confident in social studies than males while an equal number of students, male and female, reportedly like social studies . Since both groups also report that most have experience with social studies it is likely that they would value instructional experiences on this subject. Male students are less likely to be confident in ELA than females while most students, male and female, reportedly like ELA . Once again, with both groups reporting that most have experience with ELA it is likely that they would value instructional experiences on this subject. The survey reveals the student responses to be fairly mixed regarding the arts. It would be more useful if the art category of music, visual, theater, and choir were reported separately. Clearly more females show an aptitude for the arts than males but overall both groups have more students who like and have experience with music than not. Interestingly almost the same number of males report wanting to learn as who think school is boring . More females report wanting to learn than those who think school is boring . Mostly these students could be expected to engage in learning activities that appeal to their preference for hands-on experiences that are challenging . While most students, male and female, report that they always do their best and participate in class , it is clear that taking notes is not appreciated by either gender. The survey reveals that both student groups enjoy sports as a favorite hobby with boys preferring science and girls preferring math even though girls report math as a least

This class will benefit from learning activities that include choices or self selection and grouping that is intentional to ensure strengths and weaknesses are equally distributed. How will this data inform cross-disciplinary humanities instructional planning? Since writing to show what you know is an important aspect of the high school ELA experience, it will be most effective to offer a wide variety of topics for composition. The state standards for instruction can be met while allowing students to self select topics and formats for writing. Because this class is clearly passionate about sports but only somewhat excited about writing, a selection of formats like reporting, play-by-play announcing, interviewing, biography, autobiography, or memoir are some possible writing assignment choices. Students will refine their writing skills within the comfort of a topic they enjoy thus making meaningful connections that are both intentional and authentic (Strecker, 2021). Strategic grouping to ensure less confident students are interspersed among all groups will allow students to learn from each other since almost all students want to learn and prefer working in groups . Reading is another important component of the ELA classroom and offering reading choices is equally important as writing. While the state standards may dictate particular styles of writing or genres of reading, students can still be given the opportunity to choose and this will certainly increase engagement and enthusiasm for learning (Chiangpradit, 2022). Additionally, frequent checks for those students who lack enthusiasm for learning, need clarification on instructions, or are troubled by making choices will ensure that these few students will get the support that they require. Exit passes are an informal assessment that provides immediate feedback about learning and instruction.

Sample Student Survey Analysis 4 Based on the data, brainstorm what instructional strategy would be most effective for your humanities unit plan? Justify your answer. This is a Writing Across the Curriculum or WAC unit of study. As a class we will experience and explore a variety of purposes for writing as well as the audience for these writings. We will make note of the conventions and styles related to each kind of writing from scientific and historical to journalistic and entertaining. Students will produce three artifacts using a mentor text and detailed rubric to guide their writing. These learning opportunities utilize cooperative and inquiry based learning that promotes critical thinking and communication skills with authentic writing experiences (7 effective teaching strategies for the classroom, 2020). Options for independent learning are also available for those students who prefer to work alone. Based on the data, how would you differentiate your instruction to meet the needs of diverse students in your humanities unit plan? Explain. Besides the mixed ability grouping, student choice options, exit passes, mentor texts and rubrics, group reporting (sharing to class) will be used as a way to clarify understanding of the learning objectives. By sharing not only what they are learning but why and how they are learning provides opportunity for reflection and introspection.
