Two cultural works that caught my attention is Hamilton: the Musical by Lin-Manuel
Miranda and the tv show Sesame Street created by Joan Ganz Cooney and first aired in 1969.
Both cultural works caught my attention, because the stories they relay are relatable and the
delivery is extraordinary while at the same time having the audience engage in the performance.

Sesame Street
The Sesame Street show and Hamilton: The Musical both compare because they are
relaying a message visually. Sesame Street helps deliver a message through song and using
letters and numbers and is primarily aimed at preschool and elementary age children. Hamilton:
The Musical also relays a message by telling the story of the life of Alexander Hamilton, but
through rap, song and dance to a mixed age audience.
Both works reflect a different time period. Sesame street adjusts with the times and is
relatable still to kids today despite being created in 1969 and prioritizes inclusion. The show
finds ways for children to discuss major topics such as Black lives matter, HIV and losing a
parent.

Hamilton: The Musical brings an awakening to the life of
Alexander Hamilton and details the events that happened during Alexander Hamilton’s life as
well as the events of the Revolutionary War. [ CITATION Kor17 \l 1033 ]
Turning a normal
musical into a theatrical rap musical opened the doors for those who would never attend a
musical and made it fun to learn about history. I never wanted to see a musical before Hamilton:
The Musical was brought to Broadway, and it was an experience I will never forget.
A question about key aspects of human culture in relation to Sesame Street I would ask is
Does Sesame Street have a significant cultural and social impact on children? To find my answer
to this question I would begin my research by consulting parents of preschoolers who watch the
show, research the latest topics the show is promoting, search on ways throughout the years the
show has delivered topics related to present time.
