Assignment: Data Analysis Strategies for Qualitative Research Data Analysis Rachel Green Capella University RSCH-7868 – Qualitative Design and Analysis Dr. Mark McCaslin Summer, 2023
Assignment: Data Analysis Strategies for Qualitative Research Topic According to COFFEY (2018), the phrases "ethnography" and "grounded theory" are both used to characterize the study designs and the results of those designs cited in (Fitzgerald & Mills, 2022). While both grounded theorists and ethnographers may investigate processes, there are differences in each research methodology's specific focus and goal. Grounded theory approaches and ethnography are both qualitative research designs that can use a variety of data. Grounded Theory Data Analysis Strategy Finding recurring themes, coding them with words and phrases, grouping the codes into ideas, and categorizing the concepts through relationship identification make up the data analysis process in grounded theory. As a technique for constant comparative analysis, Glaser and Strauss (1967) advocated explicit coding and analytic methods, and they specified the following four data analysis procedures: 1. Examining instances relevant to each category and comparing those 2. Considering categories' attributes 3. Limiting the theory's application 4. Writing the theory (Mezmir, 2020, P. 21). Data Collection Process Alignment The alignment between media bias and how it affects the general population by the information given by the journalists is the observation of the population. By observing the population that becomes influenced by the media bias will help discover why individuals behave the way they do or how do people interpretate the information provided by the news media. Ethnography
Assignment: Data Analysis Strategies for Qualitative Research Data Analysis Strategy Ethnography depends on a variety of techniques, such as seeing what transpires, listening to what is said, asking questions, and creating a thorough written account that honors the immutability of human experience. Data analysis in ethnography can be carried out for a variety of reasons, including as a qualitative data analysis technique, as part of the iterative fieldwork process, such as memo writing, and strictly during the research's concluding stages. Beginning an ethnographic research project with observations helps the researcher become familiar with the settings that support participants' lives and activities. These locations are also probably where interviews will take place, so having experience with them beforehand will make the researcher feel more at ease. As these are the same set of circumstances that have an impact on participants' lives, observing the many features of these settings, their structures, layout, and other basic factors generates data for study (Goffman, 2010 [1989]) cited in (Fitzgerald, et . al., 2022). Data Collection Process Alignment Coding is typically the first step in data processing, which is followed by interpretive claims and occasionally, theory building in ethnographic writing. Traditionally, gathering ethnographic data necessitates protracted periods of immersion in the field and observation. This means that ethnographic analyses consider both participant observations and participant statements as part of their methodology (Jensen, Bearman, Boud, & Konradsen, 2022, P. 1145). This aligns with the research study by the observation of the individuals and how they react to the media bias. It will help focus on how the public observes the news by promoting their own opinions and how they react to the news media.
