By: Lester Johnson Untitled (1983) Johnson gave more of the colorful group to emphasis more the female figures. The female figures have elegant gestures, and you can distinguish tell their facial features. They look more energetic than the two male behind. The two male behind are duller and they don’t have facial features so in a way the look the same. Johnson is known to draw men figures in dark and somber way.

This is part of her series “Porkopolis”. She compares a pig going to be butchered to a female body. The art piece is also called “What’s your cut?” which can be either be towards the pig or the female. This painting shows on how female can be represented as ‘’a piece of meat’ while the painting before this shows women in a different light. This is part of her 4- part series “A Word Made Flesh”. Most of her artwork shows a vulnerable and sensuality. She grew up loving poems hence why she chooses these words carefully. Lilith is a powerful and threatening woman. In the painting she is embodying her own beauty, but she lacks the corset in which can be a suggestion of breaking the Victorian femineity. She has also been considered as a symbol of female empowerment Lady Lilith by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1873)

Frida painted a self-portrait but in a men’s suit with short hair. We can tell that she feels uncomfortable with the cultural conceptions of gender. She is breaking the beauty standard, tired of people telling her what to wear, say etc. Just due to her gender. On the bottom is her hair scattered which can be intercept in her way to reject the patriarchal beauty. It’s a breakthrough, finally being able to break the standard.
