I received my Associate of Fine Arts back in May of 2022 and am now working towards my BA in Digital Photography.  I currently work as a substitute teacher in my local district and mainly help in the SPED department as I find it less taxing than general education.  My hobbies include photography, reading, and casual gaming.  My end goal is to receive my Master’s in Library Science and to become a librarian.  One of my favorite creative works would have to be “ The Lord of the Rings ” series written by J. R. R. Tolkien.  It’s a series comprised of three books with the other two being “ The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ” and “ The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ” respectively.  It’s an epic tale depicted in a high-fantasy setting where a fellowship of unlikely allies set forth to save Middle-earth from dark forces.  As a result of Tolkien's extensive knowledge of philology and folklore, the book features a wide variety of worlds and creatures.  There are a few ways available to enjoy this series, but the two most popular ways are through the Peter Jackson movies or through reading the books.  I was introduced to this series by the movies themselves when I was younger thanks to my dad.  I watched Harry Potter as a kid but at the time they only went up to “ Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ” as the other movies haven't been made yet.  He assumed I would enjoy it as they both are fantasy movies and have magic.  He was correct in that assumption and as I grew older I was later able to enjoy the corresponding books as well.  I enjoy both forms of delivery as they each give me a completely different experience when consumed.  As with any book-adapted movie, there will have to be some compromises as there are limitations in place, however, the movie does well in making it seem as seamless as possible.  As I am a visual reader, it’s like I’m transported into the book and have an experience that a movie can’t give me. Like with all of Tolkien’s work, it's chalk-filled with layers of meaning.  In “ The Lord of the Rings ”, one of them is death and immortality.  When one of the characters has to face the music that his end is inevitable and that the right thing to do would be to let go of the past and finally let himself rest.  Another would be the danger of power.  In the fellowship, they have to destroy a powerful artifact that radiates evil power and each has to fight back the temptation to give in to the demands.  It’s one of the main sources of conflict throughout the series.  Friendship is also a big message.  All throughout the series, friendships are being tested and it's up to them to see if they have the mental fortitude to withstand these trials and come out on top.  These are only a few meanings scattered about, with some being more obvious than others.  As Tolkien was a philosopher, it’s not surprising he would include such themes in his work to give the reader
