2 Journal Entry 30: Increasing Happiness I chose to complete Me At My Best in Step 1 of this Journal. During this exercise, I remembered a time two years ago when I had been feeling low and uninspired for weeks. I decided to act and was pleasantly surprised by how far a few small steps of self-care eventually took me. It started with one day off work, a Saturday, when I filled my morning with yoga, coffee, journaling, and exploring some local hiking trails. Though simple activities like these, over the course of the following month or so I built up a renewed appreciation for myself and the world around me. In reflection, I am proud of myself for bucking the 'funk' that had kept me in its grip for so long; it was no small feat to fight against all the negative and limiting beliefs in my mind that sought to keep me stuck where I was. It showed strength of character on my part not only to recognize that things were not going well for me but also to actually do something about it rather than wallowing in despair. Furthermore, reflecting on this demonstrated how fully capable I am taking care not just of my external environment but also my inner emotional life gets as well. Reading over what I wrote provided a great sense of empowerment and accomplishment. It reminded me that this episode from my past was not only a success for me but also evidence of my inner strength and fortitude. Even though writing Step 1 of this journal entry did not immediately lift my spirits, I do feel inspired to use similar strategies in the future as a solution to any low periods I face. The feeling of pride and realization of my own confidence will remain a great motivation to check in with myself and prioritize self-care.
