The two artworks chosen for comparison are The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and
The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch. Both of these works share a commonality
in their focus on the natural world, yet their perspectives differ in significant ways. The Starry
Night is a reflection of Van Gogh’s own inner turmoil, as seen through the swirls of color and
intensity of the night sky. The work is a representation of his emotional state, with the stars and
sky providing a backdrop for his inner turmoil and hope. The Garden of Earthly Delights, on the
other hand, is a much more surreal piece reflecting Bosch’s own interpretation of the Garden of
Eden. The painting is filled with fantastical creatures and landscapes, offering an exploration of
the beauty and danger of the natural world. While both of these works of art are focused on the
natural world, their perspectives differ significantly
(Xu, D. Y. 2021).
Van Gogh’s work is an
exploration of his own emotions and inner turmoil, whereas Bosch’s is an exploration of the
fantastical and surreal.
When the works of starry night by Vincent van Gogh and the Garden of Earthly Delights
by Hieronymous Bosch were unveiled to the public, the reception was mixed. Initially, their works
were not well understood or appreciated by the public, as they were seen as too radical and
strange. However, over time, these works have become some of the most renowned and
beloved pieces of art in history.(
Mukherjee, A. 2022)
For example, Starry Night is now seen as a
symbol of Post-Impressionism and is a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands, while The
Garden of Earthly Delights is highly praised for its use of symbolism and its intricate details.
Thus, while these works were not always appreciated, they have since become some of the
most celebrated and important works of art in history.

Works of Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and The Garden of Earthly Delights by
Hieronymous Bosch do have different themes and ideas. Starry Night is a landscape painting of
the night sky with swirling stars and a glowing crescent moon, while The Garden of Earthly
Delights is a triptych depicting a wide variety of figures in a fantastical and surreal environment.
Neither of them are portraits nor harbor scenes.
The works of Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and the Garden of Earthly Delights by
Hieronymous Bosch do not use the same media materials and techniques. Starry Night is an oil
painting on canvas, while the Garden of Earthly Delights is a triptych painting on three oak
panels. They are both paintings, not sculptures and photographs.
The works of Vincent van Gogh are renowned for their vibrant, intense colors, while the
Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymous Bosch has a more muted palette. Both works are
highly acclaimed and well known for their richness and detail. They are both full of symbolism
and meaning, and both contain a wealth of imagery, color, and subject matter. Although the
works of Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymous
Bosch are quite different in terms of content, subject matter, and style, there are some common
devices between the two. For instance, both artists use bright colors and bold brush strokes to
create a vivid sense of movement and energy. Additionally, both works feature an underlying
dream-like quality, with fantastic scenes and creatures that seem to come to life. Finally, both
artists use a mix of realism and surrealism in their work, taking elements of the everyday and
blending them with more fantastical elements

The works of Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and The Garden of Earthly Delights by
Hieronymus Bosch seem to express very different thoughts and feelings. Starry Night is a
painting that conveys feelings of awe, wonder and contemplation, as van Gogh captures the
beauty of the night sky with its stars and the sweeping landscape below. The Garden of Earthly

Delights, on the other hand, conveys a more surreal and fantastical atmosphere. Hieronymus
Bosch's painting is filled with bizarre creatures, strange landscapes and dreamlike scenarios,
creating a much more imaginative and surreal feeling.
The works of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh and The Garden of Earthly Delights by
Hieronymous Bosch are two of the most iconic works in art history. Starry Night is a painting of a

Earthly Delights is a triptych that contains three panels depicting the Garden of Eden, the
Garden of Earthly Delights, and Hell. Both works feature elements of surrealism and symbolism,
with Van Gogh's work featuring a night view of a quiet, rural village and Bosch's work depicting a

colors, intricate details, and dream-like qualities.
