Name: Marti McFarland Course: CWV-101 Date: September 8, 2023 Instructor: Pradeep Tilak Origins Christian Beliefs Christianity has evolved; nevertheless, shares common beliefs. The bible accounts of origins are the universe, and everything that exists was created by God. Per Genesis 1-2, this is where God created the heavens and the earth on the first day. Each subsequential day, he continued to create the water, the sky, the land (for animals and mankind), the food, the light (called it day), and the dark (called it night). There was vegetation for animals and mankind, and air to breathe, and water to drink. “ God saw all that he had made,   and it was very good.   And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Thus, the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.   By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so, on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. (Bible Gateway Passage: Genesis 1:31-2:1-3 - New International Version, 2015). God continued to add and expand His creation by molding the world to advance and grow. He made sure the earth had everything that it needed to expand and multiply. God finished each day fulfilled of the creations He accomplished. They were meant to be good, and He wanted mankind to grow, and love like He does daily. The reason why Christians have decided to worship God on the Sabbath day is because the seventh day was blessed by God and made holy.
Current Understanding There are three major methodologies to creation. The methodologies are known as Young Earth Creationism, Old Earth Creationism, and Evolutionary Creationism. The first methodology, Young Earth Creationism, is that life and the universe was created in twenty- four-hour days for six days, and the earth is anywhere from six to ten thousand years old. The second methodology, Old Earth Creationism, believes that there were stages in forming of life by God and that each day was long. This methodology believes that the earth is a billion years old. The third and last methodology, Evolutionary Creationism, is the belief that God set evolution in motion. They believe in modern science. Like Old Earth Creationism, Evolutionary Creationism, believes that the earth is a billion years old. I believe that God created the universe and life in twenty-four-hour days for six days. This is why I attend church every Sunday (in person or online). The one thing that I do not agree with is that the Earth has been around for six to ten thousand years. I believe that the earth has been evolving, and that is because of God’s loving creation. With that being said, a lot of Christians still believe in creation, as I do, in a 2010 a survey stated that 58.7% of Christians still believed in creationism, 29.6% in theistic creationism, and 6.8% in evolution (Wilson, 2010). Given that modern science is growing in believers, there is still faith that God created the heavens and the earth. Impact of Current Understanding I believe God is a wonderful working God. He is the creator and made all things from nothing. I stand in a Christian worldview, and believe He has numerous attributes. He is a loving, forgiving, understanding, and merciful father. I believe in God formed the
heavens and the earth by His own hands. We were made in the image of God and only for God. He created Adam to mirror himself in a physical form. After, He created all living things, and made it to reflect Him. Genesis 1:27 “ So God created   mankind   in his own image, in the image of God   he created them; male and female   he created them” (Bible Gateway Passage: Genesis 1-2 - New International Version, 2015) . God made Adam and Eve to take care of the Garden of Eden, and to serve as a bodily representation of himself. Eve was made from one of Adam’s ribs, so he would have a companion, according to the bible. Humanity expanded beyond to just the garden to taking care the entire planet. God oversees His people, who began destroying all the things He had created. God sent a mighty flood to cleanse the land of all the sin, and destruction. This was done in effort to protect Earth.
