Haley, I did find that FEMA helps the Amish. FEMA explains that Amish communities tend to not have any warnings of storms or natural disasters taking place due to not having electricity or access to cellphones, etc. (FEMA, 2023). FEMA created a initiative mission to help the Amish be safe in natural disasters. They have a initiative called WARN which was made to help fill in the gap and make connections; to provide education to help them protect their communities and property (FEMA, 2023). In this initiative, they have the NWS sector which consists of a task force with 5 individuals, which includes emergency management and the national weather service. Three things the NWS sector does to help the Amish stay safe is by first providing education to them; the second is giving the Amish a monthly newsletter of weather safety, climate data and upcoming training opportunities and lastly, third which is they created an Amish radio that is solar and crank powered, so they can recieve weather warnings and other weather information (FEMA, 2023). I found it cool that FEMA worked on making the Amish the crank and solar powered radio, so they were able to get weather information and warnings to help keep themselves safe. -Trish References FEMA.
