Module Two Question 1 Describe one of the beliefs and values of the Navajo as illustrated in your readings. One of the Navajos' ancestral practices that survived the European expansion is the role of Spiritual leaders. These individuals would led ceremonial performances like sand painting and chanting that would act as a bridge between the ancestors and the gods. The spiritual leaders would also provide cultural guidance for the betterment of the community. Module Two Question 2 Describe one way in which the Navajo have incorporated their beliefs and values into the societal structure on the reservation since regaining some autonomy in the 1970's. The Navajo Nation reservations have opened several K-12 immersion schools that strive to teach Native American history, specifically Navajo tribe history to keep the ancient culture alive and allow the language of the ancestors to be spoken once more. Module Two Question 3 What beliefs and values can be found in your culture? How do these beliefs and values influence your day-to-day life? Coming from the Southern region of the United States we have a particular social concept called Southern hospitality. This concept is based upon the idea that you treat every individual whether they be stranger or friend with the utmost respect. The lessons of this concept were instilled in me at an early age by my southern parents and I strive to live by this simple code everyday for the betterment of society. It's simple, if you treat someone with love and respect they will in one way or another reciprocate that idea. Module Two Question 4 Adopt the social science perspective to create a list of questions about this issue. Write at least two questions each from the point of view of a psychologist, a sociologist, and an anthropologist.
1. What effect does a class system have on the mental health of the lower ranking individuals? 2. How would a shift in wealth and position affect the health of family systems? 3. How does the acquisition of a higher societal rank or position cause problems in family units? 4. How does wealth influence the religions of societal groups? 5. What physical signs of classism can be found through the study of skeletal remains? 6. What information can ancient myths provide as to the evolution of classism?
